Getting help

What's your arrival time in Coeur d'Alene?
We commit to 20 minutes or less anywhere in our North Idaho service area, and a late arrival gets an automatic discount on the job. You'll hear our estimate on the phone before you agree to anything.
Can I call on a holiday or in the middle of the night?
Any day, any hour, 365 days a year. Nights and weekends carry no surcharge, so a 3am call is billed at the same flat rate as one at lunchtime.
Is your business insured and bonded?
Yes. We're insured, bonded and background-checked, backed by $1M in liability insurance. Idaho doesn't license locksmiths at the state level, which makes a request for proof of insurance the best check you can run on anyone you hire.
How is the price set?
You get the price in writing before work begins, and it's the amount on your bill. No travel charge, no service-call fee, no parts add-ons sprung at the end. If something changes once we see the job, we explain it and wait for your okay.
Do you cover my town?
We work all over Kootenai County: Coeur d'Alene, Post Falls, Hayden, Hayden Lake, Dalton Gardens, Rathdrum, Spirit Lake and Athol and the county roads between them. Town-by-town details are on the Service Area page.
Are estimates free?
Planned jobs such as rekeys, deadbolts and commercial hardware get a free on-site estimate, and you're under no obligation. Emergency lockouts are priced over the phone before anyone is sent out.
Lockouts

Locked out

I'm locked out. What should I do first?
Phone (208) 445-9032, then check the back door, the garage entry and any window you can reach safely. Don't force the door: a split jamb or bent frame turns a simple lockout into a repair bill.
Can a lock be opened without damage?
Almost always. A typical residential lock is picked in under two minutes and left working exactly as before. Drilling is the fallback when picking doesn't work, not the plan.
Will you have to drill or break my lock?
Only if nothing else works. If destructive entry ever becomes the only option, we stop, tell you why, and let you decide before going ahead.
My keys are locked in the car. What will you need?
Just where the vehicle is and its year, make and model. Photos of the job are part of our normal records.
I rent my place. Can you still let me in?
Your landlord or property manager may have a spare, so they're worth a call. If they can't get there soon, call us directly and we'll come open the door without the wait.
Residential

Homes

Should I rekey or replace my locks?
Rekeying swaps the pins inside the cylinder so old keys stop working, while your existing hardware stays on the door. Replacing puts in an entirely new lock. A rekey runs $25–$50 per lock and takes about 10 minutes, so it's the smarter choice whenever the lock itself is in good shape.
What does a whole-house rekey cost?
Usually $25–$50 per lock, plus a single service fee for the visit. Most homes have 2–4 locks. While we're there, we can set every lock to the same key.
Can one key work on every door?
Yes. That's key consolidation, sometimes called keying alike: every lock gets rekeyed to a single key, at the same cost as a standard rekey.
We just bought a house. Do we need new locks?
Rekey on move-in day. There's no telling how many copies of the old keys are out there with past owners, contractors or neighbors. Dollar for dollar, nothing does more for your security.
What makes a deadbolt Grade-1?
ANSI Grade-1 is the top residential rating, and those bolts hold up to 250,000+ cycles and 10 kick-in attempts. Most homes come with Grade-2 or Grade-3 hardware; we suggest Grade-1 on every exterior door.
Smart Locks

Smart locks

What smart lock brands can you put in?
Any of the major ones: Schlage, Kwikset and Yale, plus August, Level, Ultraloq, Wyze, Ring and Nest, running on Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Z-Wave, Zigbee or Matter.
Will a smart lock fit my current door?
Usually. Most smart locks take the place of a standard deadbolt and need the usual ANSI 2-1/8" bore. If your door needs extra prep work, we take care of it.
Can you repair a smart lock that stopped working?
Yes: dead batteries (common after a cold snap), dropped connections, stripped gearboxes, bolts that don't line up, and app pairing trouble. Most fixes take under 30 minutes on site.
Does a smart lock still take a regular key?
Most models keep a key cylinder as a backup. When we install one, we set up both the electronic side and the key, so you're covered if the app or the batteries let you down.
Car Keys

Car keys

Can you make a key if I've lost all of mine?
Yes. We cut and program a new key from your VIN, no original needed. Have proof of ownership (registration or title) and a valid ID ready.
What will a replacement car key cost?
Transponder keys: $75–$150. Smart/push-start keys: $150–$300. Luxury brands: $200–$400. That's typically 40–60% less than a dealership. Make-by-make details are on the Car Keys page.
Do you do Tesla keys?
Yes, key cards for the Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X. Keep your Tesla account login and vehicle PIN handy for the programming step.
My fob quit. Do I need a new one?
Probably not. 80% of fob problems come down to a dead battery, a $3 fix; long North Idaho winters drain coin cells. If a fresh battery doesn't solve it, we test the fob before suggesting a replacement.
Can you come to my car wherever it's stuck?
Yes, we come to the vehicle: home, work, a trailhead lot or the side of the road, 24/7 anywhere in North Idaho. No tow needed.
Commercial

Businesses

What do you do for businesses?
Commercial lockouts at any hour, master key systems, panic bars and high-security lock upgrades, electric strikes and magnetic locks, and access control by key card, fob or biometric reader.
How does a master key system work?
It's a tiered setup: one master key opens every lock, while each employee's key opens only the doors they need. We plan the whole system and install it.
Can you set up access control for an office?
Yes, from a single standalone keypad up to card readers, fob systems and fully networked access control. We work with HID, Schlage, Allegion and Lenel equipment.
What does an electric strike do?
It's a motorized strike plate that releases on a signal from a buzzer, keypad or access system, so a door can be opened remotely without a key. You'll find them in offices and apartment building lobbies.
